I always take a guided tour in a new location to learn as much as I can. This was my second visit to Jamestown and Yorktown but first tour (last time we had only a day in this area and didn't find a tour available so did a self-driving tour). I can't believe what I missed when I did it on my own a few years ago. Matt, our Uber knowledgeable guide (and driver) kept us engaged from 8:00 am to drop off at 6:00 pm. He is simply amazing!! He gave us the historical background of the Revolutionary War in a manner that many history teachers could learn from - it was logical, interesting, educational, engaging, compelling and more. He began the story with Henry VIII and how English influence resulted in the colonies actions then spent the morning in the Jamestown Museum looking at our history in the 1600's - after lunch he brought us to Yorktown to view our history in the 1700's and the battle that was the turning point in our Revolutionary War. The Yorktown museum had an amazing film on that battle - don't miss it. I can't do justice to the day in a simple review but I can tell any reader - if you have the chance to take a tour with Matt - DO IT!! He also does other tours on other days of the week but we discovered him at the end of our stay. Had it been otherwise I would have booked other tours with him- what a fabulous experience it was.
