Full-Day Matanuska Glacier Small-Group Excursion

Overview
The Matanuska Glacier is the largest and most magnificent glacier in Alaska with road access. We will drive you to within about 1/2 mile of the face of the glacier, where we'll start our hike. We'll be hiking on the glacier for between an hour and a half and two hours, and walk about 2 miles. There is very little elevation change, and the hike difficulty is rated as moderate.

The glacier is a little over a two-hour drive from Anchorage. We will stop about half way there for a restroom break, where you will also have the opportunity to purchase coffee and snacks. Sandwiches and bottled water are provided for lunch, which we will eat after leaving the glacier. You will have the opportunity to inform us of any food allergies or preferences before we purchase lunch.

Tour guide Chris was an excellent glacier guide. The 2 3/4 mile hike took about 3 hours. Chris made sure we were all safe traversing the glacier. Definitely wear hiking boots, or sneakers you wonā€™t mind parting with because of all of the mud and water youā€™ll encounter. Overall it was an awesome experience!

Ryan was prompt picking us up at our hotel and made the 2 hour drive to the glacier fun and informative. The time hiking the glacier itself was incredibly interesting and beautiful. Couldnā€™t have asked for a better day.
