Full Day Oak Alley Plantation and Swamp Boat Tour from New Orleans

Overview
On this full-day tour, you'll be driven to the Oak Alley Plantation House, then see the Cajuns of the bayou living and surviving in harmony with the swamps. Located about an hour and a half outside the city of New Orleans, Oak Alley is one of the most magnificent plantation tours because of the 28, evenly spaced, huge Oak Trees that go from the river road to the Plantation House. Experience bayou living where here, the waterways are their highways. From the relaxed comfort of our covered New Orleans Swamp Tour Boats, you will drift slowly past a 2000 year old Indian Burial Mound, a Cajun cemetery and Fishing village! You may see the wildlife that made the Barataria Swamps the Crown Jewel of the Louisiana Purchase.

Barataria Preserve
The New Orleans swamp tour boats are fully narrated and our captains are natives of the Barataria Swamps with a background of gator hunting, fishing and trapping. They will entertain you and amaze you with the ecology of the swampland. They have lived the life! Here, birds, snakes, turtles, fur animals, and gators are the kings of the swamp and easily spotted in spring, summer, and fall. Gators do hibernate during the cold winter months, but lay on the bayou banks on warmer days. So even in Winter, our native Captains can sometimes find a sunning Gator on our tour. The slow drift of our tour boats through moss draped trees and small waterways, will provide ample opportunity for viewing and photography. Your comfort is guaranteed on our tour boats. They have a roof, restroom, cushioned seats, and windows that can be raised or lowered during cold or rainy weather, along with plenty of standing and walking room. These tours are entertaining, educational and exciting.

The plantation and swamp boat tours were wonderful. I would suggest attending both while in the area. It received a three star because of the Louisiana tour company. The late arrival at the plantation left the group rushed and only an hour at the plantation not enough for a tour and walking the grounds. The ride was very noisy and bumpy.

First, our bus was 40 min late. We had to call, and the bus ended up having to pick us up at a location besides the hotel we specified because it was inconvenient for the driver (who was late picking up everyone else)...pretty weird considering we were staying in a nice area of the French Quarter. Various drivers from the company were late, and they ended up having to organize in the middle of the road, having everyone get out of the 3 buses, and dividing everyone into the respective tours (e.g. we were Oak Alley + swamp). Shouldn't they have done that prior to pickup?? (Doesn't take a rocket scientist) We chose this company for convenient pickup, and it ended up not being that at all. Second, the driver was not great. She didn't know how to operate the bus well, and cranked the heat/AC unevenly...EVERYONE on the bus was complaining about it. Because the driver was late--AND spent 20 min in the plantation parking lot for an unspecified reason--we ended up losing 45-70 min at the plantation. We had about 5 min to look at the slave houses (wish we had a lot more time here), the full time at the house (the tour here was great--but once again, unorganized... they ended up accidentally letting in the group after us first, so we waited outside the house for 25 min as a group. SO frustrating) about 40 min, and 15 min in the Oak Trees. Then immediately had to get back to the bus. Couldn't even see 25% of the plantation! Then, the swamp. The tour guide here was great. However gators are hibernating (I don't recommend doing this in the winter), so we didn't really see any wildlife except for birds. Seriously would like a refund or compensation because this didn't even meet expectations. This company has a ways to go on organization and efficiency. I'd recommend going with a different company.

We enjoyed our day trip to Oak Alley plantation, and the swamp boat tour. It was a great way to spend a full day outside of the city. The plantation tour was interesting as it was immaculately maintained, and the host explained a dark time in Louisiana's history though I would have preferred a bit more time to explore the area on our own. The swamp tour was a lot of fun, and the highlight was being able to hold a baby alligator. If I were to do the trip over, I would have paid extra for the faster fan-boat tour rather than taking the slower, larger boat.
