Garden District Architecture Walking Tour in New Orleans

Overview
Explore the Garden District with the help of a local guide who will tell you about the history of Louisiana's great planter families. You'll see the lavish homes as a shining symbol of their success.
People like Scarlett O'Hara, who lived on the plantation in the summer and in the city in the winter months, in the heart of New Orleans, or Anne Rice, author of the novel "Interview with the Vampire" who lived nearby (Brevard House at 1239 1st Street.) You'll get a sense of the mysterious atmosphere that emanates from these imposing houses lined up next to each other. All that they have seen, the secrets of the aristocracy of the time that they sheltered. The era of masters and slaves, the segregation of the South, the Civil War, the abolition of slavery... The romantic impulses against the cruel historical reality.
Your guide will tell you the history and anecdotes about this popular cemetery, and you will learn about the rites of burial above ground.

The tour guide kept saying the same thing over and over. The new information he did offer was clearly incorrect, much of the time, as evident by plaques right in front of him while he talked. He could have just read them. And, he got mad at me for taking pictures and uploading them, while we were doing the tour. No one else had even bought a ticket for this group tour. It is obviously an unpopular company. If you want to see the Garden District, you can probably find a self guided tour that is much better.

Keynin was our guide and we had a wonderful 2 hour walk through the garden district. A lot of history, context for the area, and pointing out different architectural elements. Was an amazing part of our trip to New Orleans, has a different feel than the French Quarter, but a 'must-see' as part of the city. Also got to see one of the cemeteries from outside the gate and discuss burial practices. Did not go inside. It was very very very hot so I recommend bringing plenty of water, breathable clothes, sunscreen, wide brim hat to make yourself more comfortable. Many sidewalks are cracked and uneven which may be a challenge for strollers or those with mobility limitations.
