What To Expect
1
Moonshine Gulch Saloon
South Dakota has a reputation for its Wild West past, but has come a long way since the days of fast gun slingers, illegal gambling, and riding around town on horseback. Despite these advances, there are still a few nods to our “wild” past, including this old-time SD saloon. The western rock band - Big and Rich filmed their video "Big Time" here.
2
Bridal Veil Falls
Cascading approximately 60 feet, Bridal Veil Falls is the most accessible waterfall in the canyon. The Falls flows intensely in the spring and slows considerably in late summer and fall. it is located adjacent to a large parking lot to accommodate sightseers.
3
Spearfish Falls
Spearfish Falls is slightly off the beaten path, but well worth the walk. It is located in the heart of Spearfish Canyon near the Savoy area. The trail to the waterfall begins on the north side the Latchstring Inn restaurant and guides you to the bottom of the canyon where it takes you to the roaring waters of Spearfish Falls. Be sure to wear good shoes as the trail can be slippery at times.
4
Roughlock Falls State Nature Area
Its idyllic setting in a side canyon to Spearfish Canyon makes Roughlock Falls one of the Black Hills most beautiful areas and also one the area's most-photographed spots. Created by Little Spearfish Creek, the creek flows down a spectacular chasm, then tumbles off a 50-foot limestone ledge in a series of lacy cascades. A popular destination for decades, the newly-improved walkways offer easy access to this wonderland. It is also known as one of the few places in where one can view the American Dipper, a rare bird that can both walk and swim under the cool, flowing waters. There are shady picnic facilities and restrooms, along with trails, catwalks and amazingly designed viewing nodes. Here we stop for a picnic lunch (included with the tour).
5
Deadwood
Deadwood is a city in South Dakota known for its gold rush history. We will visit Mount Moriah Cemetery (graves of Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane). After a brief tour of No. 10 Saloon and the downtown, guests will have time to self-tour Main Street and witness the 2:00pm Gunfight.
6
Nemo
An old mining and lumber town that lies along a serene back country road. We stop for a brief break at the old General Store.

Did the Jeep tour in August at 5:30 pm. The male bulls are rutting so they are with the herds of females and baby cinnamons! Gorgeous just gorgeous! Our Jeep driver found Hundreds for us to see! And was able to go off road around the traffic to get closer! Bring a jacket for evening rides and be prepared to be amazed!

PROS: Larry, our driver/tour guide, was a good driver and navigated the narrow windy roads well. The scenery was lovely, and it was nice to enjoy it all without the distraction of driving ourselves. We were provided with bottled water and Subway lunch. CONS: Larry provided limited narration - my mistake in assuming more. Website says 'private' tour, but in our case, two strangers were surprisingly part of our tour - Thankfully, we all agreed on stops and amount of time to linger. Also, this open-top jeep had a net cover so it was impossible to take clear photos of anything overhead. SUMMARY: I was really looking forward to the day but found the experience to be quite disappointing. The tour cost was too high, especially in consideration of the end results.

Hi Kay - I'm sorry you where disappointed with the tour. From what I can discern from the reservation made with TripAdvisor there has been a mistake. You made the purchase prior to our updating the tour list with them. Your tour reservation heading says: - Custer Park Safari Jeep Tour The new headings say either: Private Buffalo Jeep Safari or Non-Private Buffalo Jeep Safari When we did not see "Private" it was wrongfully treated as a Standard Non-Private tour. I apologize, and I am refunding the difference between the two tours plus 20% for your inconvenience. The netting on the Jeep top was added as requested by other guests this summer. Five or six hours in an uncovered Jeep at 5600 feet on a hot day can get uncomfortable. Thankfully the weather for your tour was in the mid 70's. Sorry that the shading interfered with your photos. "Larry provided limited narration" . . . The thing about any open Jeep and especially our modified Wrangler is the people in the back cannot hear everything the driver is saying. To balance this the driver is supposed to provide the narration when the tour is stopped for photos and viewing. If this was not done, I again apologize and will take action to address this. Thank you for your review. It is very helpful for me to know when there is a problem. Be Well - Rich To our future guests. We have just modified some tours on TripAdvisor. We thought that we had made the correct adjustments, but there may be a few that slip through the cracks with errors. We ask that you call 24 hours prior to tour to confirm. It would be a great time to review the tour info with our employee. Just in case! Thanks Rich

We needed two Jeep’s to accommodate our family including grandparents, children and grandchildren. We were expecting to see buffalo and others animals plus the guide was to give us history etc of the park. One of the Jerp’s Guide was very good the other was definitely not! Unfortunately that was the one with most of our grandkids whom we wanted the experience to be the best and learn from too! I had to constantly ask questions and then ask to repeat answers so the grande school kids would understand! It’s expensive when it doesn’t measure up to what the info said! Be sure and have a conversation with the guide and ask them questions as to what you can expect... when I kept asking our guide questions she just said she’s rather just show us! I had asked her to explain the fall round up to the kids and that’s when she said she’d show us...showing the corrals doesn’t not explain anything! In the one case if the buffalo had been on the loop it would have been a complete waste of money! Sad because the other Jeep the opposite was true! The guide is everything!

Hello gbfoell - This was not our tour. I think you have mistaken Black Hills Open-Top-Tours Jeep Tour with the Custer State Park Buffalo Tour. The Custer State Park Tour is 1.5 hours long using many Jeeps and only goes to the Wildlife Loop for the buffalo. Our Jeep Buffalo Safari Tour is 5+ hours long, includes the buffalo on Wildlife Loop and also includes: Mt Coolidge Lookout, Iron Mtn Road, Sylvan Lake and Needles Highway. And we only have one Jeep Wrangler and have just recieved a Jeep Gladiator . . . we have not yet provided a tour for 11 people. I'm sorry you did not enjoy your tour . . . but it was not our company. Thanks and Be Well - Rich
