What To Expect

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

Your expert guide will meet you at the Pavilion next to the Upper Falls Parking Area at 8AM. This is also the staring point for Uncle Tom's Trail. The hike is a 6-mile loop. The hike is along the Canyon Rim, through the forest out to Ribbon Lake, and then past a geyser basin, Clear Lake, and the Wapiti Meadows with big views of the Hayden Valley. If you hike one trail in Yellowstone this is it!

Our hike of a family of four, two twenty-one year-olds and their father and I, had a amazing experience with our guide Emily Joe and her new trainee Audrey. Emily Joe was super fun to talk to and very knowledgeable about all aspects of the park. We had so much fun hiking through the beautiful Valley and feel like we got to experience and learn so much more about Yellowstone. Emily Joe provided everything we needed to hike like binoculars, hiking pole, bear spray and how to hike safely. We never for a moment felt afraid on the hike and she was very aware the whole time of our proximity to the Bison and other animals. This was the perfect way to get deeper into the beauty of the wilderness of Yellowstone and emerge ourselves in Yellowstone. We will absolutely be back and will definitely hike with Emily again!!

I cannot speak more highly of Emily Jo and Josh! Not only were they communicative, patient, and polite with our entire group from setting up our tour to packing down after a great day, they took extra steps to ensure that we were comfortable at all times with the wildlife and terrain. Under their wing, we learned more about the Lamar Valley, and park more broadly, than we ever would have from NPS materials and independent research (phones). An absolute must for those wanting to break away from the crowds and really enjoy the park from a different perspective.

Our hike with Emily Jo was amazing, exceeding our expectations! She provided bear spray for each of us (with instructions on using), ample bag lunch/snacks, and hiking poles. Her enthusiasm for Yellowstone, boundless energy, and knowledge of area made for a terrific experience for both of us. Our hike with Emily Jo was at the top of our many experiences on our 3 week trip to national parks in the area. We highly recommend this hiking experience, and will book with her again in our next trip to Yellowstone area.
