Our family did the Lamar Valley hike on June 20th with Josh. We had a large group of 15 but everyone was great. This was our fourth trip to Yellowstone but our first time to do a hike into the backcountry. Josh is great and goes out of his way to make everyone feel comfortable and part of the group. He is very informative and safety conscious. They provide all equipment that you might need (back packs, binoculars, walking poles, lunch) and even offered coffee and a lite snack before we left. The hike is a total of roughly 6 miles-3 miles out, lunch, and 3 miles back. Josh does a really good job of breaking up the hike into series of shorter distances before taking a break and giving information about the Lamar Valley, the wildlife, geology, or Yellowstone in general. This was the coolest thing that we have done in Yellowstone and the first time that we had gotten that far off of the road and into the Park. For novices like us, it is important to use a guide as not to accidentally put yourself into a dangerous situation. You will see beautiful country and wildlife that few people get to experience. HIGHLY recommend Josh Mahan and the Yellowstone Hiking Guides.

What a great guide service. I would recommend this service to everyone. I did hikes with Emily Jo, the Lamar Valley and Bunsen Peak. Emily Jo is knowledgeable about the region, I learned so much. Plus she is warm and friendly and makes sure her hikers are SAFE, happy and healthy. The park speaks for itself and this guide service is such a wonderful way to get away from the tour buses and that is a must!!! The coffee, snacks and packed lunch were an added bonus. These guided hikes are a great value if you look at other services! Thanks you Emily Jo and Josh, please use me as a reference if you need one!

We had such a great time on our hikes with Yellowstone Hiking Guides. Our first hike was the Bunsen Peak hike. Our guide was co-owner Emily Jo. She was knowledgeable and skilled, and a delight to spend time with. The route was great, and the views from the peak are terrific. Two days later, we did the Lone Star Geyser hike with co-owner Josh as our guide. Again, Josh was super-knowlegable and has literally grown up in the guiding business. The actual Geyser was a bit of a let-down, but the hike itself was terrific and the additional spur we took down to the river was really interesting. New guy Zach was training on our hike, and with his science background will also be a great guide. Will try the Lamar Valley hike with these guys on our next visit. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for joining us. The way the timing worked out that day we ended up catching a minor eruption versus a major eruption. The major eruption lasts longer and is a more spectacular show! Lone Star's timing has been slightly temperamental this year. Still it is mostly reliable. Thank you for your feedback and your business. We hope to see you the next time you are in Yellowstone.
