What To Expect

Talkeetna Air Taxi

You will start your excursion by checking into our log cabin office at the Talkeetna State Airport 45 minutes prior to your flight departure. Be sure to bring your sunglasses, light jacket (in the summer) and plenty of memory on your camera. Board our ski-equipped aircraft and enjoy your pilots' commentary about the geological history and local wildlife on your individual headset. Continue your flight above Talkeetna and over the river systems of the Susitna valley as you enter into an incredible landscape of icefalls, glaciers and snow peaks. You'll be awed by the Great Gorge of the Ruth Glacier, filled with a 4,000 foot thick river of ice, making this one of the deepest gorges in the world. Travel further into the range to explore the seven major glaciers that blanket the southside of the Alaska Range. Add a glacier landing onto your trip for a highlight of your Alaska vacation. This will add 30 minutes onto your trip time for this chance to bask in awe inspiring scenery.

We also were able to land on Pika Glacier. The weather at the start was iffy, but it cleared enough to have great views of the Denali range and to land on the glacier. Our Pilot, Chris, is quite skilled and was able to avoid most of the rough air. He was knowledgeable and personable. The only thing I would change was the unnecessarily long lead time between check in and flight. We did not need to be there as early as they said we did, but oh well, the experience was so great I almost forgot about that.

We were in Alaska, in three different cities over 9 days. We did multiple events each day but this flight was far and away the best part of our trip. Two hours in the plane....flying around the peaks in Denali and then landing on a Glacier. Our photos even from our cell phones were breathtaking. Andy, our pilot, was fantastic about explaining what we were seeing and making sure that both of sides of the plane got good views of everything. I would HIGHLY recommend!!

We have a family of 4 adults and we did the Grand Denali tour with glacier landing. It was definitely worth it. Mark was our pilot was narrated the tour and landed us on the glacier. The views were spectacular of Denali and all the ridges and glaciers. We had cabin pressure and had to keep swallowing to relieve the pressure. The left side of the plane seemed to have better views of Denali. The people in the office were great to meet and friendly. Definitely take their advice and wear sunglasses and a jacket.
