I've spent some time in Atlanta but I had no idea how interesting and cool this city was! This was my very first food walking tour and boy, has this tour set some high expectations. It was a beautiful 75 degree day in Atlanta with a friendly walking tour through the city. In my mind, southern food and vegetarian fare don't necessarily go together but Akila's tour was very vegetarian friendly. The vegetarian substitutions were filling and lip smackin' good. Fried okra at Pashcal's, smoked portabella at the Smoke Ring, and yummy yummy grits at Sweet Auburn Seafood. I also enjoyed learning about the history of Atlanta, the roots of the Civil rights movement, and wander these hallowed streets. Akila was a great guide!. She is very knowledgeable about ATL, the history, and the influences of southern food. (Srsly, I had no idea how complex sourthern food and history was!) I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who loves food, exploring a city on foot, and enjoys history! It is a great way to spend a couple of hours in Atlanta!

I've lived in Atlanta for almost 18 years and I learned so much going on this food tour! Akila/AFW has done an amazing job of seamlessly weaving Atlanta's rich history while tasting so many delicious foods! The tour has a perfect combination of savory and sweet, in all the right amounts so you can indulge and yet not feel too full since you are walking the whole time! My favorite was definitely the fried chicken at Paschals! I highly recommend taking this tour; a great idea even if you are from the area! Bring your friends and family and make a day out of it! You wont regret it :)

This is probably one of the most unique ways to learn about not just Atlanta restaurants but its history, architecture and community as well as the local food culture. Akila is a fantastic guide - instructions before, during and after the tour were on point. She had great stories to share, not just for the restaurants on the route but also the different attractions we crossed. She would point to this building and share a story and then point to that wall mural and narrate another. I probably saw parts of Atlanta I never knew existed. The restaurants are all picked for their contribution to the Atlanta culinary scene as well their stories. The route starts near the dome at Pascal's and ends at Sweet Auburn market. There is a bit of walking involved - she covers a lot of ground within the few hours she has you on the tour but not a minute is boring. Tons of photo opps and loved all the tastings. Remember though that the tour starts and ends at different locations so plan ahead as to how you will get back to your vehicle, if that is your chosen mode of transport. I parked at Pascal's and then took the free trolley back to Centennial to walk back to my car. You can also backtrack the route and head to a few other attractions on your own like the Apex museum or Ebenezer church. I think this is totally worth the money and the time if you want to get to know Atlanta better. Whether you are a local or a tourist, you are going to learn something about Atlanta you never knew. Highly recommend this experience!
