What To Expect

Great Platte River Road Archway Monument

Walk with the pioneers over the Oregon Trail. Watch a rider make a quick stop to switch horses at a Pony Express Station. Hear Mark Twain’s account of a cross-country stagecoach trip. Relive the competition that created the first Transcontinental Railroad, and visit a travelers’ campground to hear stories of life on the Lincoln Highway. All this happened right here on the Great Platte River Road in Nebraska. Using life-size figures in elaborate scenic displays the Archway tells an inspiring American story of discovery, innovation, and adventure. The admission price applies to the historic exhibit only. Other amenities on the Archway campus are accessible at no charge. (Note: Last Ticket Sales @4:30pm Mon-Sunday)

This museum is a bit unique in that it spans Interstate 80 between Exit 272 & 275. We came from the Firefighters museum down the road. The cost is $11 per senior. The theme is the move west. You get a electronic guide for your tour, just put in a number and get information for that display or exhibit. Many of the displays are very well done. The first level is the old wagons west migration and the upper level is the 20th Century migration and artifacts. I thoroughly enjoyed both. The gift shop has lots of things. Outside are several very well done sculptures and a great little park to walk through.

I knew the mass migration to the west and the failed attempts of many families. This is a nice positive approach. It focused on search for freedom, prosperity and happiness. I enjoyed very much. Modernday America, how it happend. Easy history lesson....

Not often one would see a large museum over an interstate highway. You can go inside and peer out a small window at the traffic going underneath. Some interesting facts about the area. Good for a one time visit.
