Greenwich Village
Local actors will take you on a fascinating walking tour of several Greenwich Village bars that are rich with literary history. Inside each bar, you’ll relax and have time for a drink as your tour guides weave fantastic tales of the history of the establishment and of some of the greatest authors who have hung out, drank and written there- writers who helped shape both the village and the world. Along the way you’ll stop at unique sites that are literary, historical, or alcoholic in nature. Add some passionate recitations, charmingly dashing guides, and a buttload* of wit – this is a tour not to miss. *is an actual form of measurement for alcohol. 1 butt load = 126 gallons or 2 hogshead

Such a fun experience! The perfect blend of New York history, literature, humor, and beverages. Great for tourists and locals.

We are big fans of walking tours, and have gone on many in our home town of NY and around the world. We had a great guide—good storyteller, very accommodating. But, it was more like walking to bar sites, pointing them out, and moving to the next. Little time spent in pubs, and content of writers in Village bars may not be enough to fill several hours. Not bad, just not as good as most of the other such tours we’ve taken.

Thanks for this feedback. This is a very tardy response. (Still learning our way around TripAdvisor). The description doesn't actually sound like our tour, honestly. I'm wondering if there was a newer guide still learning the information, who may have been on his/her own. We usually go in pairs, hit 3 pubs and spend a good 30 minute inside each, only doing a small percentage of the information we could. We've actually struggled at times to keep the tour inside of 3 hours. I'd love to offer comps to have you come back and get the full experience, perhaps I can take you along privately as well if schedules allow. Either way I appreciate the feedback and thanks for coming along.

This tour was quite simply a fabulous experience, and a great way to walk the walk of famed and infamous litterary characters of the Village. Jillian was fun, charismatic and knowledgable, and the perfect guide for this tour of the stories behind the stories. I highly recommend this experience. Just remember to ask for Jillian as a guide, and bring enough cash to pay seedy barkeepers for seedy drinks.
