Dante is the perfect guy for this tour. He’s knowledgeable about the food, about the history of the places he takes you to and takes a lot of care to make sure you’re going to get the best out of the Lower East Side.
The food itself is quite special, perhaps iconic in its own way. From Yonah Schimmels Knish to the dumplings at Vanessa’s, you get a great sense of the diversity of the cultures in this part of Manhattan. The original owners all came from nothing, immigrants who arrived and made a business by sheer hard work. They’re all now proving that hard work and consistency are what gives customers a great experience.
I think the same goes for Dante, he’s good at what he does and it shows in his passion for the food and the history surrounding it. His jokes are a bit cheesy, but it’s all part of the fun.
If you miss this tour, you’re missing a quintessential part of New York City. So don’t miss it!
