Overview

Tour the 67,000-square-foot Griffith Observatory with this curated itinerary developed by former observatory employees. Travel through space and time as your guide covers everything from science to Los Angeles history to movie magic. The observatory is also a great place to enjoy panoramic views of LA including the Hollywood Sign.

After your tour, you can enjoy a show in the world-famous planetarium theater. Bring money for tickets, and your guide can help you purchase these on-site. This 40-minute immersive show includes live narration and out-of-this-world projections. Shows are open to ages 5 and older.

Meet your guide on the front lawn at Astronomers Monument. NOTE: We are an independent tour company and are not affiliated with the City of LA or their employees. If you ask Observatory staff about the tour they won’t be able to help. You MUST check in with your guide at the Astronomer’s Monument.
To see a planetarium show, you can buy tickets in person. Your guide will show you how. They're $10 for adults and $6 for kids ages 5-12 (under 5 not allowed in the theater).

Astronomers Monument

See the Astronomers Monument — a large, outdoor concrete sculpture on the front lawn that pays homage to six of the greatest astronomers of all time.

Griffith Observatory

This world-class observatory features one of the largest Foucault Pendulums, a 50,000-volt Tesla Coil, an interactive periodic table of elements, and more. View the night sky as seen from the Samuel Oschin Telescope at Palomar Observatory.

Hollywood Sign

One of the best views of the sign!

The tour guide was great but parking was terrible and expensive. There were no spaces within a mile of the entrance. We had to walk almost 25 minutes uphill in the heat. I would not go there again unless it was during the off season for visitors.

Thanks for reaching out. We're glad you enjoyed our tour guide! Griffith Observatory is a very popular tourist destination and Los Angeles is notorious for heavy traffic and frustrating parking. Unfortunately the parking situation is beyond our control. We encourage our guests to arrive early so that they can find parking close to the observatory.

The complex is incredible. The guide we had (Oscar)was superb. We learned so much. He has a true passion for the subject and his enthusiastic delivery made it informative, easy and enjoyable We would have missed so much without his expert guidance. Cannot recommend highly enough.
