I ran a boutique travel company to Russia for many years, and people were most enthusiastic about walking tours, to experience the city and to interact and understand its uniqueness. Richmond has such a resource: The Richmond Tour Guys. My guide was formerly a history professor, and fortunately others in our group were just as interested (and informed) about history as I. It was not a long list of names and dates, but rather a holistic snapshot of Richmond’s history as a trading center, a confederate capital. A great resource and great ‘tour guides’.
