Overview

At MMC we take pride in providing what we feel is necessary for a fun and safe ride down Haleakala. As the pioneer of the downhill bike ride we are knowledgeable of the roads, the people, the regulations, especially since we assisted in creating this industry and making it what it is today. We know the roads like the backs of our hands and can instruct you how to properly handle the roads and your surroundings. You must incorporate the knowledge of cycling within this environment, and that we are masters of. We even go a step further to ensure you feel comfortable, we stay on the mountain with you to make sure all turns are made, it can get tricky, and don't want anyone lost. This is also helpful if an incident was to arise. Last but not least we are the only bike tour company that offers free parking.

Beautiful views however the equipment and was not up to expectations. The bikes had excessive rust, brakes on my bike squeezed a lot, and my rear tire was bald. The bike shop was non existent. An old bank was being renovated in the future but there was no shop or accommodations. No care was taken to make sure our bikes were fitted properly or in good working order. Our tour guide John was very knowledgeable of the area being a life long resident with some interesting tales of people who developed the area. I didn’t realize that bike tours were not permitted to the top of the park so I was disappointed that we were unable to start from there. We did enjoy the donuts in the town we rode through. The web site is not reflective of the actual business.

Hi I’m Shannon with Maui Mountain Cruisers. My apologies for the bald tire. As we are all experiencing with todays economy the ability to purchase and ship items are not as they should be. I appreciate your noticing so we could get that changed out quickly like we did. As far as the rust goes that is part of island life. I wish I had control over that situation but I can assure you there are no mechanical issues that can arise from a few spots of rust. If we feel a part on bike has rust to the point where safety would be an issue that bike would be removed from the fleet. We are with you also on being disappointed on no bike rides out of park. We wish we could return to those glorious days but the state has not allowed bikes in park for some time. My apologies. I hope you still enjoyed your ride and we appreciate you letting us be a part of your Maui memory. Mahalo

I don't really understand the negative reviews. I think some people just aren't happy unless they get to complain. The bus tour up the mountain was phenomenal, very informative and entertaining. The bikes were really nice, pretty new, and in perfect working order. This is an activity that anyone can do because despite the mileage, the vast majority of the ride is downhill, so there is not an extreme amount of effort required. We did the self-guided tour on the way down after the bus portion, and we had a great time. Just make sure you pay attention to the map they provide, as you have to navigate a few intersection turns yourself. I do suggest dressing in layers to gradually peel off, as the top of the mountain is rather chilly.

The ride was very enjoyable. John shared some wonderful information on the drive to the drop off point. However, it was surprising how many bikes needed air for tires when we received the bikes.
