Service was average, pick up and drop off were very strange, we also had to go to the port to pick up people from the cruise line. But the other guests on the bus weren't allowed to go into the port, so we were kicked out of the bus to wait on the curb while the cruise passengers were picked up, then allowed to get back on the bus. This happened again during drop off. I suggested to the driver that they send a separate bus to the port (the company has at least 4 buses) and he made a comment about me, which was rude and unnecessary. Also my bike did not work well, it seemed to be stuck in one gear, which was fine going downhill, but on the few places you needed to paddle it didn't go anywhere, and I had to get up and walk. Haleakala is beautiful, the ride down has amazing views, but I probably won't do this again.

We started with a great tour up to the summit of the volcano. The driver, Corey, was quite entertaining and very knowledgeable of the geology and volcanology so it was both fun and insightful. Then we took our time as it’s self-guided to town down the road, making several stops to take pictures, per some horses and just get a break. I recommend the tour, it’s not demanding as it’s always in descent but requires some stamina at the end where the road goes up hills a few time :)

The tours begins with a visit to the volcano. This is an amazing sight and our tour guide topped it off with an amazing trick shot which makes it look like you are actually skydiving! After the sightseeing the real fun starts when climbing on your bike and riding down the mountain. They have the best bikes ever for this type of thing, with great breaks (and you will need those!). Only 2 small parts of the journey actually require you to peddle so the trip is pretty easy. If you want more excitement, just break a little less and you go with speed over 50 km in a heartbeat. Or go a little slower if that is not your thing. But any which way you do it, this is a beautiful ride and so much fun to do!
