Amazing morning. Worth the early wake up! The sunrise was STUNNING. (Dress warm! I brought gloves, ear warmers, and a sweatshirt). Staff was beyond helpful, caring, and enthusiastic. They all really wanted you to have THE BEST time. Definitely do self guided and go at your own pace. We felt totally safe the whole time and take advantage of stopping for breakfast and scenery!

We loved doing the Sunrise Self-Guided Bike Tour on our honeymoon. The sunrise was amazing and something everyone should experience! The tour was easy to follow on our own and we loved having breakfast in Makawou on our way down the mountain! Bike Maui provided us with helmets, wind jackets, backpacks and bikes during the tour. Great excursion!

We booked this excursion for the 2nd day of our trip, as recommended in a previous review. The meeting spot was easy to find and they provided vests, rain pants, rain jackets, backpacks and helmets. The bus drive up to Haleakala was smooth. The guides spend the first 30 minutes or so talking through our bike ride back (where to turn, what landmarks to watch for, recommendations on where to stop for breakfast, sight seeing etc). Overall, the guides were very informative and helpful! We arrived at the summit around 30 minutes before sunrise which was perfect timing. It was beautiful! I recommend bringing a tripod stand for your camera or the little tripods for your phones to take time lapse videos of the sunrise. The biking portion of the tour was my husband’s absolute favorite! He has a need for speed and the bikes were in great condition. I was a little more cautious but as soon as I got used to the bike, I was zipping down the mountain too! Since the ride down is self-guided, my husband and I were able to choose where we wanted to stop. We ate breakfast at Kula Lodge.
