This is our third time doing the sunrise bike tour. It has never disappointed. Sometimes I wonder if getting up at 1:45 am to do this, on vacation, is worth it. But, we are always happy we went. Do it at the beginning of your trip and it’s easier to wake up, if you are from the mainland USA. As one of my kids said “When Helly Hansen comes to play, it will be a good day!” The rain gear provided is top notch Helly Hansen gear. The bikes and helmets are better than they have ever been and the buses are a great improvement over the vans they used to use.

My husband and I did the sunrise self guided bike tour with bike Maui. It was absolutely worth it. We couldn’t have been more pleased with the staff, who were very friendly and helpful. We also got very lucky with the weather. We got to the top in plenty of time and had perfect visibility for the sunrise. I understand not everyone gets this- but the weather is not bike maui’s fault. We made it back to the office by 0930, spending about 2.5 hours biking. It was amazing. My husband and I agree that it was the highlight of our trip. The equipment is MUCH better than the other bike companies we saw on our trip and i felt no pressure to be done quickly or anything like that. We brought our camelbacks so we wouldn’t have to stop to drink water. And we stopped to eat sandwiches on the side of the road next to some chickens. But there are opportunities to stop for food and shopping on the way down. Bike Maui supplies rain pants and rain jackets, as well as gloves and vests for while you’re on the top for the sunrise if you want them (FREE OF CHARGE). Use them. It gets very cold at the top. Again I say this was a wonderful experience. Exhilarating when you pick up speed as you descend. You can get the speed wobbles if you don’t keep a check on your brakes.

Tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly and made sure that we all knew the route down. Enjoyed stopping off for breakfast and ambling down at our own pace. Good equipment. We had a great time.
