My husband and I participated on Bike Maui's Sunrise Haleakala Bike Tour and LOVED it. We were picked up from our hotel right on time (which was appreciated since it was 2 am!) and taken to the company's shop at the base of Haleakala. There we were given helpful bike instructions and fitted with all the necessary gear: helmets, rain jackets, rain pants, backpacks, and gloves. Unfortunately, the weather didn't cooperate that morning and we saw zero sunrise. It was raining hard and we were very glad to have the high quality rain gear from Bike Maui - it actually kept us dry. We were super bummed about the weather, but obviously knew it was a possibility. The good news was, we still rode our bikes down the mountain and it was an incredibly beautiful and memorable experience! The bikes were safe and in good working shape - which is really important when riding downhill on a steep volcano! Our guide on the ride up the mountain was awesome - I regret that I don't remember his name, but I do remember he was once a pro-football player in Nevada. He was very friendly, super knowledgeable, and just an all around lovely guy. The instructions he gave us to get down the mountain and back to the shop were spot on, as well. I'd do this tour again and definitely recommend to a friend! Thank you Bike Maui! ps - due to the inclement weather that day, the company did offer a discount off the tour if you had decided to not ride your bike down the mountain and instead take the mini-bus down. We didn't do this (and were glad we didn't - it was a beautiful ride once we got a bit lower in elevation) but thought it was a very kind gesture from the company. Good business practices!

I highly recommend this tour. During the ride up the our driver and guide (Keith and Jackie) did a great job of providing insight on the history of the area, it was very informative. We got to the top a little before the other large groups so we were able to secure a good viewing spot for the sunrise. We stayed at the summit for about an hour before heading down to the park entrance. You will definitely need layered clothes for your time at the summit, it was very cold when the wind was blowing. The guides did an excellent job of making sure everything knew the way back. They also provided great suggestions for places to stop along the way. The bike ride back was 90% coasting and braking. It was mostly relaxing and had incredible views. This was a great tour that I would recommend as a must do when on Maui.
