We wanted to do a active adventure to keep our kids (ages 11 and 14) occupied and away from their electronics (a battle that most parents are dealing with!) and this adventure fit the bill! We meet Pat and Mason at a predetermined location about 5-10 minute drive to the park. Once there, we were given our gear (waders, and boots) and then we were lead to the river to fish. There was a little hiking involved -- about 10 to 15 minutes worth --- to our location. They knew the area and found a spot where you can believe you are the only ones there. No other fishing parties could be seen and I knew there was few because they were all getting ready to head out at the parking lot. Both guides provided teaching on how to fish (experience for us ranged from "done it before a few times" to " I am just doing this for the kids") There were mainly pink salmon "humphies", silver salmon and a few trout. We caught a total of 15 salmon, all catch and release.
Overall, the kids thought it was one of the highlights of our trip so far, which made it a win! We were fortunate to have great weather that day and great guides. Highly recommend their expedition if you want to get a taste of Alaskan fishing.
Tip: bug spray and sunscreen and wear layers!
