Half-Day Guided Hike in Joshua Tree National Park

Overview
I am a 22 year resident of the Mojave Desert and log 500 miles annually on foot within Joshua Tree National Park. Over the years and miles I've cultivated an awareness of landscape, ecological systems, and local culture that when contextualized by the trail becomes a narrative experience I'm eager to share.
I landed in Joshua Tree after dropping out of college in 2001. Back then you arrived by chance or a friend of a friend said you had to check out the rocks, feel the energy, and camp under the stars.
I fell in with the gathering characters, an assortment of dirtbag climbers, avant artists, practical new age visionaries, and entrepreneurs...an amalgam of identities that would go on to create the image of the High Desert that is so coveted today.
I am legally permitted to guide within Joshua Tree National Park and happy to host you. I know my stuff and I want you to know it too.

We had an amazing day in Joshua Tree with Hollis. We did a half day hike. She took us on a scramble. We learned a lot about the wild life in the area as well as the plants. We highly recommend this hike.

I was in Palm Springs for a birthday vacation and was looking for ways to decompress and reset. This hike with Hollis turned out to be the perfect way for me to do that. She made sure that the hike suited my capabilities and that was appropriately challenging. At first, I thought it would mostly be walking around the desert, but Hollis introduced me to "scrambling" which took the hike to another level. "Scrambling" on the boulders allowed me to get in touch with nature in a different way. Hollis also did a great job educating me on the environment and the desert fauna. This was the first time that I have been on a guided hike led by a woman and Hollis was impressive. I shared with her that I was on the fence about taking a guided hike, but she quickly changed my mind as she shared her knowledge of Joshua Tree and being outdoors. This was an AWESOME experience!

We booked two half-day hikes with Travis and Hollis, who guided us through the wonders of Joshua Tree National Park. As novice hikers, we greatly appreciated their ability to adapt their walking pace to ours and their continuous efforts to make themselves understood, especially by my friend who had limited knowledge of English. Their extensive knowledge in plants, animals, geology and communication skills made our hikes one of the highlights of our stay in California. We couldnā€™t have asked for better guides! So if you ever plan to hike through Joshua Tree NP, be sure to call on Wandering Mojave !
