On a hot day in Denver I desperately needed some fresh air and to get out of the city and see something besides concrete. This was just the ticket. The meeting place was easy to find and conveniently at Union Station (since I had to take a train downtown). Guide/host was prompt and got us all boarded and out of town. It was a bit quick but there was some distance involved and not a whole lot of time. The guide was very knowledgeable, explained things in detail, pointed out historical items, geologic history and land forms, vegetation, animals, answered questions and very friendly. Stopped at a rest stop and took a small stroll along a trail along a creek, at Idaho Springs (small town) and at a lake in Arapahoe Park. Actually out of reach of cell service a lot of the time (nice!)
Wear walking shoes and bring a water bottle and any snack you need. Idaho Springs is the only place to get anything.
Just two suggestions:
1.) I ended up in the back seat next to an air conditioner vent and I really had to struggle to hear the guides voice while driving. I missed 1/4-1/3 of what was said. Consider a simple PA system when you have to have the air conditioner blasting on hot days and with a full van.
2.) On this tour regional history of humans began when Europeans arrived. How about something about the original inhabitants of the region? It's as though they didn't even exist - and I know they did and have a rich history.
Except for those two suggestions I would really recommend this for someone who doesn't have a lot of time and wants to see something of the region outside of the City of Denver
