Slip into Hanalei River from our own private dock. There we check out our Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles (Honu) before heading over to the beach where we will land our kayaks and take everyone out snorkeling (45 mins). Guides will share modern day reef ecology and point out what to look for while snorkeling. After snorkeling we provide a full deli style lunch, sit, hang out, & answer any questions you may have about our island. Our guides are born and raised here and take pride in sharing their island knowledge. This tour has an 8am check in time and runs from 8:30am-1pm. I have wife and 4 kids (11, 9, twin girls 6) and we had a blast. My younger son had been bugging us all week long about taking a kayak trip so we went with this outfit as it was through the Cliffs at Princeville which got us a deal. Goldie is great and we got into a big group (something like 8 kayaks with many doubles and us as triples). Our guides were Kama (Goldies son), Kapaliki(?), Harry and they were great. They helped many of us who were novices if not fresh meat and even towed in my wife to Hideaways as my 11 yr. son couldn't give her enough thrust. Lots of good information about local stuff and very very nice. Our tour was perfect for us; some people might want more aggressive stuff. I'm sure Hanalei Kayak could accommodate that too but they were very aware of what kind of kayakers they were dealing with. Also were great with helping everyone snorkeling from Hideaways beach, had great local knowledge about picking a special tree leaf as a snorkel anti-fog screen. Very nice, I kept a couple for later usage; worked great even a day or 2 later.

We did the morning tour, arrived at 8:00 to check-in. Goldie handled the 'crowd' very well; maintaining a wonderful smile and friendly to all. We liked the fact that it is a family run business, you could tell the pride of ownership...but with a low-key feel. We kayaked in the stream area; the guides were very informative giving history of the island and working the surroundings into the information. They were very patient with all questions. Then we went out to the Pacific. That made me quite nervous, but was reassured that it would be fine. We paddled the waves over to Hideaways beach for snorkeling. My husband ventured out further than I did, but it was still an awesome experience. We were given a healthy lunch; turkey sandwiches, cherries, chips, drinks. Some of the guides played music and sang; very nice touch. Then it was time to head back. Going back was a lot easier and not as nerve-wracking, however, one couple did get toppled (glad it was not us). All it all, very low-key; but just what we were looking for in our first kayaking trip (ever!)
