I had planned to wander around Harvard on my own but decided last minute to grab this tour. I was really glad I did because the tour goes to all the major buildings on campus and I learned a lot. While the campus is public, non students cannot enter the buildings so it was 100% worth it to have a guide who could tell me what was in each building and what it looks like inside. Mike (my tour leader) was both informative and very funny, telling interesting facts (historical and architectural), university myths, and fun details about student life.

Rather than wandering around Harvard Yard as first-time visitors and not really understanding what anything was, we took this tour to get a little history, a few facts and layout of the campus, as well as some insight into what itā€™s like being a student here. At $14 each the tour wasnā€™t particularly expensive and lasted around an hour, and our guide being a current student made for more of a first-hand insight into the place. Our group was not particularly large which helped being able to hear easily what was being said. At the end youā€™re taken to the Harvard store, but we didnā€™t feel under any obligation to purchase anything. Iā€™m sure the university is full of fascinating stories and the tour could easily be twice as long, but all the basics are covered and our guide encouraged us to ask him about anything that interested us as we walked around. This might be a little more difficult in larger groups. Obviously this is a working university first and foremost and you wonā€™t be able to see inside any of the buildings, interesting though that would be. No real criticisms for the price, although my partner has a mobility problem and we did feel a little left behind by the rest of the group on occasion.
