Haunted Memphis Walking Ghost Tour

Overview
Enjoy the darker side of Memphis and hear tales of the city's haunted heritage as told by professional storytellers. The city’s South Main Historic District – an eclectic, colorful area with some of the city’s oldest buildings – has a long history of sensational murders and ghostly activity. On this two-hour walking tour, you'll visit a number of haunted sites, including:
• The Orpheum Theater, home of "Mary," who has haunted performances since 1921
• The John Alexander Austin House, a Victorian era mansion haunted by star-crossed lovers
• The notorious Ernestine & Hazel's, a former brothel long recognized as one of the most haunted buildings in Memphis. We'll take you inside this creepy establishment, home to several ghosts as well as a haunted jukebox.

Our guide was fun and informative, answered questions, and delivered the stories surrounding the sites we visited wonderfully. Admittedly, we had already had a couple of adult beverages before the tour began, so she could probably have told us that she'd personally gone to dinner and dancing with Abe Lincoln and we would have thought it was great, but still... it was a really fun (and inexpensive) thing to do and provided an alternate perspective on some sights around town. The walk isn't particularly long or challenging, but it is definitely a walking tour, so prep accordingly. Would highly recommend.

My two friends and I went on the Ghost walking tour and it was not worth the 20.00. REASONS: You can only go inside one of the haunted places and that place is the last stop. We were told we could get water, some people did but there wasn't enough. We were told there would be another place to purchase water, but there wasn't. There was a lot of walking with obstructed sidewalks due to construction. Most of the information we had already read about when choosing what tours to go on. SUGGESTIONS: They could have recommended we purchase water before the tour due to the heat and humidity. Coordinate with the establishments we could go inside of so they would have enough water for us to purchase. Have more establishments we could go inside of. Coordinate groupings so they don't overlap and make one of the groups wait.

This ghost tour was good, but nothing spectacular. The guide didn't seem to be especially knowledgeable, but she was friendly and enthusiastic. I didn't find it to be at all scary, but that's okay, wasn't really looking for that. I would say this tour was pretty average as far as ghost tours, but a good way to pass an evening and maybe learn a little Memphis history.
