Overview

Enjoy the darker side of Memphis and hear tales of the city's haunted heritage as told by professional storytellers. The city’s South Main Historic District – an eclectic, colorful area with some of the city’s oldest buildings – has a long history of sensational murders and ghostly activity. On this two-hour walking tour, you'll visit a number of haunted sites, including:
• The Orpheum Theater, home of "Mary," who has haunted performances since 1921
• The John Alexander Austin House, a Victorian era mansion haunted by star-crossed lovers
• The notorious Ernestine & Hazel's, a former brothel long recognized as one of the most haunted buildings in Memphis. We'll take you inside this creepy establishment, home to several ghosts as well as a haunted jukebox.

Within a few blocks there are four different parking garages, and several open-air parking lots. The closest garage to our location (just two blocks away) is at 149 Peabody Place between Second Street and BB King Blvd., next to the Hampton Inn. You can try your luck with on-street metered parking, too, on Second Street just south of Beale; on Beale between Front and Second; or along Peabody Place from Front to Fourth Street.

Patti was absolutely AMAZING. By far the most personable and memorable ghost tour guide we’ve ever had. She made great recommendations along the route that were relevant to do a little homework (by stopping into them for a drink, seeing a show, grabbing a sweet treat, etc.”). We were talking earlier that day about how Memphis felt like we were missing something. Patti was so knowledgeable and really opened up our eyes and on our walk showed us just what we were missing to really appreciate and understand the area in the short time we were there. 10/10 would recommend for the stories and the overall knowledge you gain about the residents (both living and non-living!).

The tour guide was great! He told great stories and really knew the area. He made it a lot of fun. The only thing that would have made this better would not have gotten to go into a couple of the places. He mentioned that we could go ask the next day if we wanted, but I think it would have made the experience a lot better if we could have gone in and experienced some of the things he was talking about. But overall it was really fun!
