What To Expect

Gettysburg

Your guide will orient you to the area of East Cemetery Hill which is the location of heavy fighting during the Battle of Gettysburg before you enter the National Soldiers Orphanage Homestead. This building was used as the headquarters for General O.O. Howard during the battle and was also use as a hospital during and after the battle. After the end of the Civil War the building was turned into an orphanage for children whose fathers were lost during the American Civil War. That is where our story begins...

Just did the Orphanage tour with Eric as our guide. We enjoyed listening to the history and stories from this tour. He did a wonderful job and we look forward to coming back!

My husband, mother and younger brother walked the Orphanage Tour at the beginning of October 2021. I have personlly been on this tour atleast twice while my husband was once before and my brother and mother had never. We had an excellent tour guide by the name of Mike, he was full of spooky stories and had a WONDERFUL acting presence to each of the stories he had shared. He was not only engaging but was full of knowledge about different types or stories! Mike's ghost stories could interest almost any age group which was wonderful for my family. I appreciated that this was the first Orphanage tour my mother and brother saw as this was one of my favorites. Thank you Mike! We had a great time on your tour. On the other hand, I was not impressed with the attitude nor organizational skills of the front counter staff. When getting my tickets, the person up front made me feel like I was a nuisance and seems unintrested in helping nor directing me to the what I needed to do next prior to my tour.
