Hermann-Grima Historic House Guided Tour Ticket

Overview
This restored French Quarter home built in 1831, includes a Federalist architectural façade, original operating open-hearth kitchen, urban slave quarters, and expansive courtyard. The Urban Enslavement Tour at Hermann-Grima House, looks at the experiences of those who were enslaved in an urban setting, how that differed from those enslaved in rural settings, and how the contributions of people of African descent have shaped New Orleans. Condé Nast Traveler voted it one of the best tours in New Orleans and the only tour listed from a museum. We believe that nothing tells a story like a home. In addition, the property’s 19th-century carriage house is home to the The Exchange Shop, originally founded in the 1881 by The Woman’s Exchange and one of the oldest women-led non-profits in the South.

We were very lucky to be just the two of us on a tour of this house, their gardens and slave quarters. We were unfamiliar with urban enslavement, and the guide provided interesting contrasts between enslaved people in NOLA and those on plantations. The guide’s presentation and knowledge of the residence was excellent and we would certainly recommend this visit to see something historically different in the French Quarter.

My daughter and I visited this beautiful house in August. The guide was knowledgeable and friendly. We had a small group of 6 so we were able to ask questions. We have visited many historic houses over the years but learned a couple new facts during this tour. I highly recommend touring this house when you visit New Orleans.

Our guide was awesome, didn't rush us, and answered questions well. You could tell the information had been carefully thought out to be presented with impact rather than just information. We saw the back courtyard, servants quarters, kitchen, whole bottom floor, and master bedroom upstairs. Well worth the hour and the price!
