Hermann-Grima Historic House Guided Tour Ticket

Overview
This restored French Quarter home built in 1831, includes a Federalist architectural façade, original operating open-hearth kitchen, urban slave quarters, and expansive courtyard. The Urban Enslavement Tour at Hermann-Grima House, looks at the experiences of those who were enslaved in an urban setting, how that differed from those enslaved in rural settings, and how the contributions of people of African descent have shaped New Orleans. Condé Nast Traveler voted it one of the best tours in New Orleans and the only tour listed from a museum. We believe that nothing tells a story like a home. In addition, the property’s 19th-century carriage house is home to the The Exchange Shop, originally founded in the 1881 by The Woman’s Exchange and one of the oldest women-led non-profits in the South.

Took a tour on a Monday afternoon as the home is right around the corner from where I’m staying. One of the best tours I took while in New Orleans. Our tour guide was amazing, very informative and gave a great tour.

What a beautiful home to visit. Detailed and beautiful restoration with antiques, period wallpaper, art and accessories. I appreciated all the vignettes that makes you feel as though the family just stepped away for a few hours…the dining table set with china, the children’s room with toys about, a pair glasses on a desk or a brandy set just waiting for an evening pour. The house tour also shows you the dark side of all this luxury the family enjoyed, with accounts of the families slaves, the duties they were required to perform, and the areas in which the worked and slept. This is an excellent tour and one I’d highly recommend!

What a wonderful tour. The house was like stepping back in time. The house itself has had limited changes and the rooms are full of furniture from the families that have owned it, four total in almost 200 years. Our guide was fantastic, the tour is about the house and families but a story about the history of the area. Highly recommend taking the time to see this wonderful part of history.
