Hermann-Grima Historic House Guided Tour Ticket

Overview
This restored French Quarter home built in 1831, includes a Federalist architectural façade, original operating open-hearth kitchen, urban slave quarters, and expansive courtyard. The Urban Enslavement Tour at Hermann-Grima House, looks at the experiences of those who were enslaved in an urban setting, how that differed from those enslaved in rural settings, and how the contributions of people of African descent have shaped New Orleans. Condé Nast Traveler voted it one of the best tours in New Orleans and the only tour listed from a museum. We believe that nothing tells a story like a home. In addition, the property’s 19th-century carriage house is home to the The Exchange Shop, originally founded in the 1881 by The Woman’s Exchange and one of the oldest women-led non-profits in the South.

This historic home has several elements that make it worth the visit, including the condition of the home, the additional elements that are part of the property, and even its usage as a set for television. While I enjoyed my visit, I found the guide provided mostly essential details and relied on our questions to draw out additional information. Even though I appreciate the opportunity to ask questions, I prefer to be supplied with lots of details initially to inspire them. Overall, though, I recommend making time to explore this beautiful home and its property to deepen your understanding of New Orleans.

We have been to New Orleans several times and this was the first time I heard it the Herman-Grima House. We have visited other plantations and the description of the house sounded interesting. We had a very good tour guide, Mary, who was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. and siento CoVID restrictions the tour was only for our family. The house and the history of it is very interesting. The house is well set up with items from that time period. It is also located right in the French Quarter. The house is one of the only ones that still has a stable among other interesting features. Totally recommend. It is a well spent hour tour!
