We really enjoyed our 4-hour hike with 2 great guides. The company were quite flexible with us booking the day before. They were professional with good contact throughout. The hike was very educational with lots of information provided on edible plants and the forest system. There are a lot more hikes available upon request including weekends etc to climb into the mountains. Be aware that if you are tight for time you will need to watch the clock yourself.

I love hiking and wanted to get into backpacking so after a quick search on Google I found "A Walk in the Woods" and booked a "Backpacking 101" trip for 28-29 October. The team there was very professional and helpful in the weeks prior to my trip and during the trip. My guide was Erik Soltan, he was awesome! They provided my pack, sleeping back/pad, and tent so that I could try it all out before spending the money on my own. Even though it rained the entire first day/night and we woke up to snow the next morning the trip was a great experience. I would strongly recommend this company to anyone wanting a guided hiking/backpacking trip in the Smokies! Thank you again to the "A Walk in the Woods" team.

We went on the A Walk in the Woods hike - "Off the Beaten Path' with Michael. My wife and two kids (ages 9 and 11) LOVED it! We are all pretty athletic and wouldn't recommend this hike for people not willing to go for a jog or play some kind of athletic event as it was challenging at times. Micheal was a great and the whole family loved him. He related well to the kids and the adults. He is funny and a great teacher. If we ever see a bear we plan to yell "Six superbowls" at it, but the kids also yell that spontaneously at times when they feel like it :) It was very educational and we were blessed with very nice weather which my only warning would be to have some reasonable hiking attire based upon the weather. Because our weather was very nice we got away with sneakers and shorts/t-shirts but if it was raining, wet feet and clothes might have been a downer. We visited the Great Smoky Mountains for a little over a week and did many things. This hike ended up being the family's favorite event. It was so much fun and provided many lasting memories. The beauty of the woods, the knowledge picked up, being "alone" in the wilderness and Michael's fun attitude all provided for a perfect day!
