I so wanted to stay at the Lodge, but cannot do the lottery as my vacation is not that flexible. So, I did the next best thing...hiked Mt. Le Conte in one day. My guide, Charles, took me up the very popular Alum Cave Bluff trail. All along the way his knowledge of the flora and fauna was very impressive. He hiked at my pace which was a little faster than normal (the hike is over 11 miles). We came down the Rainbow Falls trail which is not crowded until you get to the falls. I really enjoyed working with this outfit as they were very flexible to weather concerns and were able to easily reschedule me quickly to the next day due to rain. Charles was very professional as was the entire company. I like that there is a cash discount option. I gained more knowledge hiking with Charles than I would have ever learned by hiking on my own. I highly recommend them when you visit Smoky Mountain National Park even if you have hiked some of the trails before, this will give you a new perspective on the diversity of this beautiful forest.

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful 1/2 day hike with Mike on July 1st, to an amazing waterfall in the Smoky Mountains. We were prepared to hike many of the trails on our own during our vacation, but after reading many of the reviews on Trip Advisor about "Walk In The Woods," decided to go on a guided adventure to gain some further knowledge of the area. From beginning to end, Mike surpassed our expectations- the hike was truly a highlight of our trip! We gained a wealth of information, and took away a true love for the Smoky Mountains. Thank you, Mike! It's evident that you have a true passion for what you do! :)

Together with my husband and our 4 kids (6, 8, 8, and 10) we enjoyed an amazing time with Charles (our guide) on our waterfalls and pools hike today.  The kids were enamored with Charles's knowledge of the mountains. They talked his head off and he patiently answered each of their questions giving them his full attention!  Having spent a great deal of time in the Smokies with my grandparents, who once lived there, I was a little hesitant on whether or not a guided hike would be overkill. We experienced the beauty of the mountains in a completely new and exciting way. If you feel like you have hiked enough on your own and don't require a guide you are mistaken!  We will definitely be scheduling another adventure with A Walk in the Woods the next time we are in the Smokies and will send our friends and family too!
