High Line and Chelsea Market 3 Hour Private Tour

Overview
Fantastic views, fabulous food, and incredible architecture await you on this private tour of Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood and Meatpacking District!

We’ll start with an overview – literally – of Chelsea high above on New York City’s High Line. Atop this former elevated railway, enjoy views of the Hudson River and hear the story of its redevelopment as a park.

From here, our New York City walking tour enters the Chelsea Market, known for its diverse culinary offerings. With everything from artisan cheese to authentic Italian gelato, you might need to ask your guide for their top picks!

After our Chelsea Market tour segment, we’ll head to the Meatpacking District, a once-industrial warehouse district turned hip commercial area. Dip in and out of the spacious shops hinting at their former lives as slaughterhouses, or, following your tour, visit the world-renowned Whitney Museum of American Art and take a short walk to one of NYC’s most unusual river attractions, Little Island!

New York City
Community Impact: -Our tour guides encourage eating local, helping to reduce our impact on the environment and supporting local communities -Our tours strive to include businesses that support and employ refugees -Our tour narrative includes a focus on the environment and community organizations, including Friends of The High Line, which came together as a small collective to transform a neighborhood from abandoned to revitalized -We hope to inspire and educate with our inclusion of repurposed buildings and spaces, which can help preserve history and potentially reduce waste
2
The High Line
You’ll walk a portion of this elevated former railway, restored and developed as a beautiful public park complete with native plantings and beautiful river and city skyline views. Our High Line tour promotes the repurposing of historic and significant structures, the reduction of construction waste, and the importance of green urban spaces and also therefore the mission of the Friends of The High Line organization.
3
Chelsea Market
Your New York City walking tour includes a stop at this historic food hall where fresh, local, and immigrant foods are the main features of our neighborhood walk. Enjoy freshly baked breads, artisanal cheeses, organic wines, and even a slice of genuine New York–style pizza, and more!
4
Chelsea
You’ll have plenty of time to explore the neighborhood of Chelsea with your guide, who will introduce you to the area’s best shops and restaurants. Home to local businesses and the many eateries housed in historic Chelsea Market, you’ll help us support our NYC economy and reduce our carbon footprint just by using your two legs to get around!
5
Meatpacking District
We’ll be walking around this trendy neighborhood that was once home to warehouses, slaughter houses, and other brick buildings dating back to the area’s industrial period. Your tour guide will provide an overview of the district’s history and its struggle to preserve it in the face of gentrification.
6
The Shops & Restaurants at Hudson Yards
From the High Line, you’ll be able to see the public space known as the Hudson Yards, an upscale, multi-story indoor shopping mall filled with stores and restaurants.
7
Edge NYC
Among the many marvels of New York’s architecture collection, the Edge seems to defy gravity with its 100-story-high observation deck jutting out far above the Hudson Yards.
8
The Vessel
This 16-story honeycomb-like structure is one of the architectural delights of the Hudson Yards and which we can view from atop the High Line.
9
Little Island
As we take in city skyline views on our High Line tour, you’ll also be able to look east towards the Hudson River, where the unique tulip-like concrete structures hold up the park known as Little Island. As with the High Line, the project took clever engineering and a long process involving native plantings.

We did a High Line tour with Erik Hodgetts. Besides the fact that he is extremely knowledgable he can also weave his stories with the NYC of today. Which makes it a very pleasant experience to do a walk on the town with him. He is a nice guy. He is also a simple pleasant guy to hang with. I was told he knows a lot about architecture but in all realness he knows a lot about everything NYC related. From architecture to politics to daily NY living. What I also liked is that he becomes one of the guests. He walks with you instead of in front of you with some silly tour guide flag in the air and he actually mingles with his guests when walking from one spot to another.

Erik provided the most enthusiastic and densely informative tour of the Highline and Chelsea Market. Erik is incredibly knowledgeable and full of amazing non-stop facts and stories associated with the history and development of Manhattan’s Highline and Chelsea Market. You will not only experience the beautiful surroundings and views from the Highline. You will come away with an informed appreciation for this most dynamic and ever-changing edge of the City. Erik also generously shared his personal knowledge and interest in many of the ever-evolving international cuisines offered at the Chelsea Market. With so many intriguing choices, it was almost impossible to decide what we would select for our lunch.
