Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Sarah was outstanding. Charleston is a great city and the history, quirkiness and unique things that make it special came alive under her expertise. Excellent tour and great value! My partner and I enjoyed ourselves immensely even when it began to rain and didnā€™t want to stop Sarah was a real trooper - since we were a small group she accommodated our detours and questions. Great experience and highly recommended

This tour exceeded my expectations and was easily one of the best tours I have ever experienced. Bill was incredibly knowledgeable and offered so much insight into the history and the impact of that history on Charleston, the US and the world. He covered every topic including the Native American population, the significance of Charlestonā€™s port city with respect to the importation of enslaved African people and the immense wealth built by slavery. He spoke about the different religious groups, the different social classes (planters vs farmers classes), the immigrants that came over time, the architecture of the buildings and churches and put every detail into perspective. I have been on many walking tours in the United States and around the world and this was easily one of the best tours Iā€™ve been on. Billā€™s knowledge of history, his research on the topics he speaks of and his passion for this tour, for the history and this city are clearly evident and inspiring. I would take this tour again just to learn more! This is a real history tour which provides a real insight into the beautiful, complex, barbaric and interesting history of Charleston and the United States.

Bill (William) was terrific! He was incredibly knowledgeable of the Charleston area and you can tell he loves the city! His passion for the city's history as well as its future is very evident throughout the tour experience. He also shared his opinions (but not in a way degrading or absolute way) which gave the tour a very personal touch! We would highly recommend him to anyone that wants a truly historic, detailed yet fun view of the city!
