Highlights of Charleston Guided Walking Tour

Overview
Our two hour Highlights of Charleston walking tour guides guests through the historic French Quarter and South of Broad neighborhoods of downtown Charleston. Along the way, your guide will describe the long history, unique culture, architecture, and geography of Charleston and the greater lowcountry area, painting a detailed picture of how Charleston's tumultuous past formed the city now beloved by travelers the world over. You'll view some of the city's oldest houses of worship, burial sites, theaters, the forts of Charleston harbor, and the antebellum mansions that look out across the waters of the Cooper and Ashley rivers, among many other historic and picturesque sites. Our guides also offer their expert advice on other activities, restaurants, and bars for guests to explore once they've finished their tour.

This relatively-inexpensive tour was excellent for learning details about the history of Charleston as well as the current cultural ā€œvibeā€ and ā€œissues of the dayā€. Our guide (Dennis) provided interesting and meaningful information and was able to answer all questions in great detail. While you donā€™t actually go through any of the sites visited, the tour provides enough information to let you know whether further visiting would be desirable and also provides geographical orientation to facilitate such follow-up. Recommend wearing comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. (The day we went was sunny but cold enough to require a jacket.). If it had been raining, this would not have been a good option since you are outdoors nearly the entire time. Many photo opportunities throughout the day. A great idea for the day of arrival or first day of your visit!

The tour was okay. We walked by all the named places on the list but the contents of the tour itself seemed somewhat spotty. The history didn't flow and at times felt like we were aimlessly wandering. The guide didn't even point out all the named places on the list. I left the tour without significant understanding of city's history.

This tour is an absolute must for history lovers and Charleston lovers! Bill's knowledge and passion for history seems limitless! We've been to Charleston so many times but we are forever changed by this tour when we visit this favorite city. Bill made us want to ask questions, learn, and read more about everything we learned on the tour. He's very kind too- we even joined him for pizza in a hidden gem after the tour. This is sincerely the best history tour or walking tour we've ever taken. Give it a try for yourself! If we could give it 10 stars we would. :)
