HOTEL pick-up is offered for select HILO HOTELS ONLY. If you are staying outside of Hilo, please plan to meet at the Hilo Mo'oheau Bus Terminal (please confirm at time of booking).
CRUISE SHIP passengers, we pick-up directly at the PORT OF HILO and will adjust the tour time as needed to accommodate your ships time in port.
For a one DAY TRIP to the Big Island, please make your travel arrangements to and from the HILO AIRPORT. Schedule your flight arrival a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the tour start time AND provide your flight details at time of booking.
Children ages 8 years and up may participate in tour. All participants must have a paid seat. We do not allow any "lap" children.
Kilauea volcano is an active volcano, you may be exposed to volcanic gas on this tour.
This tour cannot accommodate guests with wheelchairs, scooters or oxygen tanks.

My husband and I had an awesome day with Josh and several others, that we did not know, from our cruise ship. He took us all around Hilo and showed us sights the larger groups couldn’t see or access. The time spent spelunking and at the lava field was a definite highlight! Josh was extremely knowledgeable and personable and made the day one of our favorites. I don’t normally write reviews, but I just can’t say enough about the wonderful day we had. I highly recommend booking Mauka Makai for your Hilo or Kona adventures.

We joined Jill for a 7 1/2 hour adventure seeking Sea Turtles, visiting lava fields, sampling chocolates, playing at a State Park, viewing a fabulous waterfall, and exploring Lava tubes. We had a nice picnic lunch, had frequent bathroom breaks at clean facilities, and heard an incredibly knowledgeable local guide tell us all types of interesting facts. The day was the perfect mix of activities and a perfect pace. We had 10 people on our trip in a very clean very new and comfortable van. We felt so invigorated after this long tour. We wish we had booked this company for our next day’s trip in Kona. We will send all our friends to this company.

My wife and I have gone on many tours around the world. This, by far, was the best tour ever. Jill, our tour guide and owner of Mauka Makai Adventures, is very knowledgeable, friendly and kept our interest throughout the tour. Even when we stopped for lunch she was available to answer any questions we had. We booked this tour based on reviews (did not book through the cruise line) and we were not disappointed. Wish there was a 10 star review because 5 stars is not enough. You cannot go wrong with this company.
