What To Expect
1
Banyan Drive
Our first path drives us down Banyan Drive known as the "Hilo Walk of Fame" for the banyan trees planted by celebrities, such as Babe Ruth and Franklin Roosevelt and many others. These trees have withstood several tsunamis that have devastated the town of Hilo
2
Liliuokalani Gardens
This is the largest Japanese garden outside of Japan donated by Queen LiliŹ»uokalani in 1917. Throughout the gardens are stone lanterns, gazebos, and torii gates, recalling the Japanese immigrants who came to Hawaii.
3
Rainbow Falls
breathtaking 80 ft waterfall, Rainbow Falls. These beautiful falls get their name from the rainbow that is often visible in the mist that rises as the water cascades to the rocks 80 feet below.
4
Big Island Candies
Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter, and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that "wow" both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.
5
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
We will then make our way to the summit of Kilauea volcano at the Volcanoes National Park, the most highly regarded and revered volcanic area on Earth. The Park highlights two of the world's most active volcanoes--Kilauea and Mauna Loa--and offers insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and views of dramatic volcanic landscapes. At the park, you will stop at the Visitor Center, witness the spectacular collapsed caldera, steam vents, sulfur banks, and fascinating scenic lookouts. No trip to Hawaii is complete without a trip to Volcanoes National Park.
6
Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube
We will walk through a lava tube and the guide will share information with you on how it was formed by lava. This lava tube is .4 of a mile loop trail with low lighting. Gradual stairs descending into the tube ascending stairs coming out. Not all passengers may be physically fit in which they may stay in the vehicle or outside natural scenery for this portion of the tour.
7
Richardson Beach Park
Richardson Black Sand Beach, where sea turtles are usually spotted. The Black Sand Beach is a local favorite, and is a great way to see how the ocean and volcanoes make fine black sand.

Bus driver/ tour guide Billy was friendly, helpful, flexible, knowledgeable. We went at tourist pace, took time but not excessive time at stops, went to priority locations (black sand beach, volcanoes park) and received background and current information.

Did this tour last week when we were on the NCL Pride of America. Please be aware that you do not view any Japanese Gardens or any Macadamia Nut Farms. There is only bottled water if you ask for it and there are no snacks given out. The driver does not speak much, he only puts on a movie about volcanoes, which no one watched on our bus. At the Thurston Lava Tube, our driver literally said, ā€œHere you go, just walk across the street and go rightā€¦.ā€ He never even told us what we were going to look at! The driver does not go with you to the few sights, he will just say, ā€œ Meet back on the bus in 15 minutes. Enjoy!ā€ Lunch is on your own at a place similar to a 7-11 back home. We would sneakily join other tour groups at the sights to listen to a guide explain the history of what we were looking at and what it was like to live on the island. To make up for the gardens and nut factoryā€¦. you get to spend more money at a candy shop. Sorry, Edmond!

Aloha yes the Lillioukalani is a Japanese garden. Its actually the largest outside of Japan. Macadamia Nut Farm is closed still since covid so he made an extra stop by chocolate factory. Right now we go to a deli called manono mini mart to grab lunch. Sorry but thats all we have for right now - our other places closed down since covid so we are trying our best. I have spoken to the guide about your comment and everything will be handled. Thank you for your review

This trip was the highlight of my cruise. Big C added a bus at my request because cruise line cancelled my excursion. Edmond the guide/driver was friendly, warm and informative. The National Park was amazing- viewing volcano, walking thru a lava tube and a fern forest as well as viewing steam vents. The movie on the way to the park was so enlightening. Rainbow Falls was also beautiful. Highly recommend this tour for all ages.
