What To Expect
1
Banyan Drive
Our first path drives us down Banyan Drive known as the "Hilo Walk of Fame" for the banyan trees planted by celebrities, such as Babe Ruth and Franklin Roosevelt and many others. These trees have withstood several tsunamis that have devastated the town of Hilo
2
Liliuokalani Gardens
This is the largest Japanese garden outside of Japan donated by Queen LiliŹ»uokalani in 1917. Throughout the gardens are stone lanterns, gazebos, and torii gates, recalling the Japanese immigrants who came to Hawaii.
3
Rainbow Falls
breathtaking 80 ft waterfall, Rainbow Falls. These beautiful falls get their name from the rainbow that is often visible in the mist that rises as the water cascades to the rocks 80 feet below.
4
Big Island Candies
Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter, and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that "wow" both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.
5
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
We will then make our way to the summit of Kilauea volcano at the Volcanoes National Park, the most highly regarded and revered volcanic area on Earth. The Park highlights two of the world's most active volcanoes--Kilauea and Mauna Loa--and offers insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and views of dramatic volcanic landscapes. At the park, you will stop at the Visitor Center, witness the spectacular collapsed caldera, steam vents, sulfur banks, and fascinating scenic lookouts. No trip to Hawaii is complete without a trip to Volcanoes National Park.
6
Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube
We will walk through a lava tube and the guide will share information with you on how it was formed by lava. This lava tube is .4 of a mile loop trail with low lighting. Gradual stairs descending into the tube ascending stairs coming out. Not all passengers may be physically fit in which they may stay in the vehicle or outside natural scenery for this portion of the tour.
7
Richardson Beach Park
Richardson Black Sand Beach, where sea turtles are usually spotted. The Black Sand Beach is a local favorite, and is a great way to see how the ocean and volcanoes make fine black sand.

We were scheduled to be on a Friday morning tour in Hilo, but Celebrity had to cancel this day and we went out the next day in the evening tour. Highly recommend going in the evening because you see the red cinder/ flames from the volcanoes. Edmund our guide was fantastic

We arrived on Celebrity cruise on Hilo and joined the C Big Island tours. Picked up at the port by Edwin who was a fantastic and informative guide. The tour was great with stops at black beach, rainbow falls, volcano National Park and the lava tubes. Although on the tour booking itinerary stated Orchid gardens and macadamia nut farm, we never did visit those. Not sure why and was not informed why. But overall great tour and highly recommended. The one thing I would change is a better stop for lunch pickup. We stopped at a corner store to pick up sandwiches which were average. If I knew earlier I would have packed sandwiches from the cruise which would have tasted better. But again, great tour, great guide. Thanks Edwin.

Thank you for the wonderful review! The macadamia nut farm is under construction and will open later. They have not given us an exact date, unfortunately. The orchid nursery is now only open a few hours a day and pretty much on non cruise ship days. When we went in about 2 weeks ago there was nothing really there and they were very clear in expressing they don't want a bunch of cruise ship guests and that they are moving to more online. So that stop will be completely removed which is good because it always pressed us for time. We used to have the most fabulous lunch stop but since 2020 they shut down. We are trying our best to substitute until the new macadamia nut farm is open :)

Edmond our guided host was great! He is even tempered, polite, thoughtful, and very knowledgeable about the sites we visited. There was no rush, rush. It was a very peaceful and enjoyable day. We are seniors so not being rushed and having a kind soft-spoken guide who could answer our questions was important.
