What To Expect
1
Banyan Drive
Our first path drives us down Banyan Drive known as the "Hilo Walk of Fame" for the banyan trees planted by celebrities, such as Babe Ruth and Franklin Roosevelt and many others. These trees have withstood several tsunamis that have devastated the town of Hilo
2
Liliuokalani Gardens
This is the largest Japanese garden outside of Japan donated by Queen LiliŹ»uokalani in 1917. Throughout the gardens are stone lanterns, gazebos, and torii gates, recalling the Japanese immigrants who came to Hawaii.
3
Rainbow Falls
breathtaking 80 ft waterfall, Rainbow Falls. These beautiful falls get their name from the rainbow that is often visible in the mist that rises as the water cascades to the rocks 80 feet below.
4
Big Island Candies
Big Island Candies was established in 1977 to manufacture and market fine quality macadamia nut candies and cookies using 100 percent Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts and Kona coffee, island eggs, real butter, and high-grade chocolate. Since its founding, Big Island Candies has continuously introduced new and imaginative products that "wow" both the eyes and taste buds of its growing legion of fans.
5
Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
We will then make our way to the summit of Kilauea volcano at the Volcanoes National Park, the most highly regarded and revered volcanic area on Earth. The Park highlights two of the world's most active volcanoes--Kilauea and Mauna Loa--and offers insights on the birth of the Hawaiian Islands and views of dramatic volcanic landscapes. At the park, you will stop at the Visitor Center, witness the spectacular collapsed caldera, steam vents, sulfur banks, and fascinating scenic lookouts. No trip to Hawaii is complete without a trip to Volcanoes National Park.
6
Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube
We will walk through a lava tube and the guide will share information with you on how it was formed by lava. This lava tube is .4 of a mile loop trail with low lighting. Gradual stairs descending into the tube ascending stairs coming out. Not all passengers may be physically fit in which they may stay in the vehicle or outside natural scenery for this portion of the tour.
7
Richardson Beach Park
Richardson Black Sand Beach, where sea turtles are usually spotted. The Black Sand Beach is a local favorite, and is a great way to see how the ocean and volcanoes make fine black sand.

There seemed to be some tactical problems between the bus drivers and the staff handling identification of customers and the placing of customers onto the buses. My party was on one bus and moved to another. This was annoying. The event seemed disorganized because of this. HOWEVER:
The tour was exceptional! The driver provided detailed information about every place we were taken. I would recommend that the list of things to bring should include a simple plastic raincoat, just in case.

Great tour....guide was very informative. Got to see a lot of the sites on the big island. Walking through a lava tube was the best.

We enjoyed this excursion very much.

First, credit where credit is due - our tour guide/driver, Edmund, was excellent. He is very well informed, and provided interesting information not just about the subjects of the excursion, but about living in Hilo.

My husband and I were awe-struck by Volcanoes National Park. Looking down into the crater was like looking at the surface of another planet, such an eerie landscape. Watching the smoke coming up, feeling the steam, was almost other-wordly. Walking through the lava tube was an unforgettable experience. Next time I will plan to spend much more time there.

Later on, we visited the Black Sand Beach which was an amazing photo op with lush green foliage and beautiful blue ocean with dark sand. That is another must return to place.

We also visited the Mauna Loa nut processing factory, which itself was closed as it was a Sunday the gift shop, of course, was open... still, it has lovely gardens.

There was a short stop at an orchid nursery which we could've done without, but still, it was something different that we don't see every day.

Overall, an excursion full of beautiful sights and interesting information.
