Took our 14 year old and our 12 year old on the Shrimp Trawling boat to learn more about the island, the sea life and the shrimping industry and we literally sat on a boat with no interaction for over 90 minutes. Our kids have been scalloping, lobstering, mackerel fishing, deep sea fishing, whale watching and on other types of boats to see and learn about the area, all of these other companies have provided interesting information about the area. This trip could have been so much more and enjoyable if the Captain Spike who only said a few safety statements at the beginning of the trip or the assistant, Carrie were more knowledgeable and engagable. We could have discussed the history of Hilton Head Island or the surrounding islands, the types of turtles, dolphins or fish found in the sound, the shrimping industry, the change of the tides, the building of the lighthouse, anything....instead the entire boat sat in silence. I was also horrified at the amount of fish and sea creatures (2 baby sharks, 2 stingrays, and some squid) that were not immediately thrown back and left to die on the sorting table. Overall, a disappointment and poor experience.

We went on the Tammy Jane for a 2 hour 'shrimping' adventure. I have to be honest, I expected a bit more education and interaction being on the boat for 2 hours. Given it was a full boat, we sat up front ( which we were told- take a seat where you can find one). All of the 'conversation/interaction' was in the front of the boat. The captain did not interact with the guests ( other than to give his 5 minute 'overview' on the tour). We legit sat on the boat for over an hour with no one interacting or speaking with us. I would have loved to learn more about the island and/or history or SOMETHING. The girls were great and it wasn't awful- but it was pretty boring compared to other charters we've done.

We loved our shrimp trawling cruise on the Tammy Jane. It was so much fun, and a welcome change of pace from the standard booze cruise or sunset dolphin watching cruise. As we dragged the net, numerous dolphins followed the boat. Bonus! Our crew was fantastic, especially the first mate, Kaley. She was SOOO good with the kids and kept us all entertained during the trawling part of the cruise. Loved her dry wit. We disembarked with 1 1/2 pounds of fresh shrimp, which we took immediately to the Crazy Crab restaurant, They steamed them and served them to us with a side of our choice for only $10. AWESOME!
