This was an excellent walking tour led by Mike Mack who is originally from Philadelphia but knows a great deal about his adoptive city after almost 40 years. The tour lasted a bit over 2 hours and was at a leisurely pace. At regular intervals Mike encouraged us to ask any questions. You cover a large area of historic Savannah with its beautiful tree shaded squares and learn how the city was planned and laid out beginning in 1733 with the arrival of James Oglethorpe. Throughout the tour you see amazing architecture and historic buildings such as the Olde Pink House, Cathedral of John the Baptist, and the Green-Meldrim house known as General Shermanā€™s headquarters during the Civil War. We also saw many SCAD locations and and learned how the public-private collaboration has contributed to a creative art district while continuing to honor the past. This tour was a great introduction to Savannah.

This tour was recommended by the concierge at the B&B where we stayed. It lasted a little over 2 hours--the time passed quickly because the information was so interesting, and the guide (Kelse) had a great delivery. We got an appreciation for the unique culture of Savannah, by learning about the history and people. Our tour was on a Monday morning and had 6 people, so there was time for questions and some tailoring to our interest. Kelse had spent a lot of time to learn as much as he could about the personalities of the individuals who had shaped Savannah, and his love of the city was infectious. Highly recommended.

Orlando was excellent! I honestly doubt think we could have had a better guide. He was well informed and knowledgable about Savannah's history. It was a great way to start our vacation in Savannah and helped us plan the rest of our trip.
