Historic Savannah Walking Tour

Overview
Our Savannah History Walk is an excellent way to orient yourself with Savannah’s past. We start in Savannah’s oldest square and outline the founding of both Savannah and Georgia. From there we head south, square by square, discussing Savannah’s booms and busts.

Some topics covered include the Oglethorpe Plan for squares, the father vs. son atmosphere of Revolutionary Savannah, the city’s most famous duel, Presidential visits, the Civil War era and Federal occupation, the experience of Antebellum and post-War African Americans, and the city’s churches and historic homes. We’ll take our talk right up to the tourist boom brought on by a certain book, the growing Port of Savannah, and where the city goes from here. You’ll also hear about dozens of men and women who made this place what it is.

This is Savannah's most in-depth and comprehensive historic tour. Whether a tourist or longtime resident, you’ll walk away with a greater appreciation of all things Savannah.

We will proceed down Savannah's main street through some of the most beautiful squares in town. We'll visit five in total. We'll spend about 20 minutes in each square, discussing both the history of the city and that particular square. Brandon led us on a descriptive and entertaining history walk through historical Savannah. He is a former national park ranger so it is not a surprise that he knew the history. However, his enthusiasm captivated our family of five and the three teens said that they enjoyed it immensely. I recommend that a guest new to the city would benefit immensely from hearing the Savannah history and understanding the layout plans before venturing out here n their own to better appreciate all that this city has to offer. It was worth every dollar and then some. Brandon I’d the most prepared guide that I’ve ever toured with. Thank you.

Brandon did a great job of accurately portraying the History of Savannah in a very interesting way that kept you listening to every word he had to say. We have been on dozens of city tours and this one was one of the best for sure!

No matter what kind of trip you have planned, in Savannah you will almost always be walking a fair amount. It's a lovely thing, not to be avoided. The architecture and atmosphere that you can take in by simply walking around is wonderful. But a walking tour with Brandon kicks that up to a whole new level. Brandon is a fountain of knowledge and passion, plus his enthusiasm is contagious. We did our Savannah True History Tour on the first night of our trip and the city literally came to life for me. Savannah is steeped with deeply important history and rich, vibrant culture. Without this tour, I would've just been walking around thinking how pretty things were when that barely scratches the surface. For the rest of our time there, I appreciated and enjoyed where I was so much more thanks to what I learned from Brandon. I can't recommend his tours highly enough! If we go back to Savannah, I would want to start the trip with another tour again. It was my favorite thing we did in Savannah! Thank you Brandon!
