Overview

This 9 Hour Tour begins with a two-hour shuttle into the Hoh Rain Forest, one of the largest temperate rain forests in the contiguous USA. At the Hoh Rain Forest, guests typically have two full hours to explore the Hall of Mosses and Spruce Nature Trail on a Naturalist Guided Hiking Tour. Our guide will overview the natural history of the Hoh Rain Forest, identify various micro-plants, and showcase the top viewing areas. The endless moss-laden scenery and towering old-growth evergreens are breathtaking.

After a scheduled stop in Forks, we spend the afternoon on the Pacific Coast at Rialto Beach. At Rialto, guests generally have one or two hours to explore this beautiful section of wilderness coast amongst massive sea stacks, driftwood logs, and the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. Overall, guest can expect 3-4 hours of sightseeing with about 4-5 hours of drive time roundtrip from our Port Angeles meet-up location.

Our meet-up location is in Port Angeles, WA, which is the main epicenter for exploring Olympic National Park. Please note that this is about a 3 hour one-way trip from Seattle.

What To Expect

Hoh Rain Forest

Upon arrival at the Hoh Rain Forest, our naturalist hiking guide will lead a 2 mile guided hike along the scenic nature loops up to 2 miles. During the hike, guests will be face-to-face with 300 foot tall old growth Sitka Spruce trees, sword ferns covering the forest floor, and a wide variety of vivid-green vegetation. After the rain forest hike, there will be time allocated for a picnic lunch.

Forks

To split up our drive from the Hoh Rain Forest to Rialto Beach, we will do a 20-30 minute scheduled stop at Forks Outfitters. This is a great place to pick-up lunch snacks, coffee, or a quick souvenir.

Rialto Beach

During the afternoon, our tour group will enjoy a scenic stop at Rialto Beach along the Olympic Wilderness Coast. At Rialto Beach, guests will walk alongside towering sea stacks, massive driftwood logs, and watch the crashing waves of the Pacific Ocean. Guests can either join a guided hike led by our naturalist hiking guide or can explore the coast at their own pace as time and tides permit.

I usually hike with friends and avoid tours as uninteresting and too tame. Not Olympic Hiking Company. The owner has a compelling origin story and the guides (we had Oscar and Bob) are first rate--they know the area like the back of their hands and engage with guests in wonderful ways. Then there's the environment of Olympic National Forest that is stunningly beautiful. The oxygen of the Hoh Rain Forest alone is worth the price of admission. Well organized and paced with a nice group of people from all over the world. The tour is good base for exploring the park on your own later on and super fun.

We had pre-arranged two separate days of tours. We spoke with Tommy to make the arrangements. He had many good suggestions, listened to our wishes and recommended 2 days of 6 hours each. One to Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent et. al. The second day was to the Hoh rainforest and Rialto Beach, A wilderness beach on the Pacific. These areas were amazing! Eric was our guide for both days and did a fantastic job. He adapted each day to fit the best times to visit each of the areas. His wide range of experience in all things outdoors and understanding of the flora and fauna were expert. He was not only educational and interesting, but tailored the tours to our interests and abilities. Olympic Hiking Co. is top notch and you would be well served to arrange either Private or Group tours with them.
