Cons: The tour company is in an armpit area of L.A., be aware while you are waiting on the street. They tell you to arrive 20 minutes early, which we did, but that is just so that they can herd you into their souvenir shop to get you to spend money. There is a restroom available if you need it prior to departure. We had to keep checking out front to see if the guide was ready to leave, and they finally boarded us on the (dirty) bus 20 minutes after we were supposed to have left. We sat on the bus for another 20 minutes, waiting for another group of six to show up. They never did, so 40+ minutes late, we finally left. The guide was just ok - he kept stopping in the middle of stories, said he would come back to that story, and never did. Listening to him was really more like reading a copy of TMZ magazine or something - not necessarily relevant information to what we were seeing, and most of the time what he was saying felt made up. Twenty minutes into the tour, he circled back to the beginning where we boarded the bus to pick up the party of six that finally showed up. It was obvious that the only thing this guy was after was tips at the end of the tour, and the more people that boarded, the better his odds were. We left and repeated the whole fist part of our tour, hearing the same nonsense and seeing the same sights. This was really unacceptable. He was not entertaining or funny or anything, and a lot of times, seemed to be struggling to remember things to say.
The bus is uncovered and similar to the picture shown, so keep that in mind when he jumps on the freeway! It was pretty windy and I did not always feel safe in the crazy traffic. If you are afraid of heights, the view on Mullholland is pretty steep, as are the hills going up and coming down. My husband had to look away at one point when we stopped to look out over a cliff at the houses, etc. I was fine with it, but just a heads up.
Pros: If you've never been to L.A. or Hollywood, this tour does leave you with a sense of "Been there, done that." I used to live in North Hollywood, so I knew what to expect (no glamor). Rodeo Drive and Beverly Hills was nice to drive through, and yes, you do see the Hollywood Sign several times. Overall, I think the tour was worth the money but not the time. We ended up being unable to visit with CA family (we were in town from Ohio) because the delay in picking up the very tardy party caused us to hit miserable rush hour. I suppose I would recommend the tour, but you'll certainly not want to do it a second time.
