My husband and I take turns picking activities, and the other usually tries to maintain a positive attitude while grinning and bearing it through whatever the other has chosen to put us through. Horseback riding was my idea, and I thought my husband would be tolerant, but it was so much more than we were ever expecting! Hap is a hell of a wrangler, and has some amazing stories. For several minutes, I was pretty certain I was IN a City Slickers sequel. Unlike other trail rides I've taken, the horses aren't bored and tired, thoughtlessly following the tail in front of them. You actually get a good ride. Wear sun protective clothing and a hat, sunscreen, and bring plenty of water. No backpacks as they may spook the horses. Definitely wear close toed shoes. I recommend sleeves and pants as the saucier horses may introduce you to some tree branches along the way.

Great trail. Great wranglers. Great horses. It was a super ride. Went from the bottom of Red Canyon all the way to the top.

This was definitely a 5 out of 5! Beautiful vistas, peaceful ride, lovely horses and a knowledgeable and engaging guide! We took the half day ride (we are not regular riders and I wanted to balance the experience and the post-ride soreness) with Mike as our guide and Pepper and "Dangerous Dan" as our fearless steeds. The half day trip (4 hours) took us to the bottom and top of Losee canyon with amazing views. Mike told great stories about Butch Cassidy (and separated truth from fiction) and we learned so much about the trees, rocks and local fauna! He also listened and was a great conversationalist and made sure we were safe and comfortable. Pepper and Dan were steady and well suited for us - easy to ride, well mannered, and took direction from us, which many nose-to-tail trail ride horses don't. You can't beat the amazing scenery and the peaceful break from the crowds. Highly recommend Red Canyon Trail Rides!!
