What To Expect

Kailua-Kona

Board one of our sleek, powerful, twin-engine, rigid hull inflatable vessels to search for and observe the seasonal migration of the Humpback Whales along with some of their year-round cousins – Pilot Whales, Beaked Whales, Melon-headed Whales, and others that are regularly found along the Kona coastline. Your adventure focuses on finding these magnificent mammals and spending quality time with them, by observing, photographing, learning, and listening to their song and other vocalizations using our underwater hydrophone system. This 2.5-hour adventure does not include getting out of the boat or swimming to observe the whales. But it's the perfect opportunity for those who love the ocean and all its wonders. Adults, children, families and friends of all ages and abilities will enjoy together one of nature’s grandstand most elegant creations.

We did not realize that we were to look for the building when we arrived for our tour and had to call back to the office to realize that we met at the table near the restrooms. Once out to open water, we immediately were met by spinners and moved north to see one of the last remaining groups still in the area before migrating up to Alaska. Definitely a must for anyone or family coming to see the whales. Just make sure you come early to see them.

Kai our Captain knew where to find the whales and was very informative about them. I expected to see or 1-2 whales but we saw countless whales including mom and her adolescent and observed a ""heat race" where several male whales chased a female whale - at one point we were surrounded by whales! Dolphin Discoveries staff in Kona were friendly and worked hard to make sure we had a great experience. They exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend them.

Amazing experience to see with your own eyes what you normally only see on National Geographic. Caparazón Shelley made sure we saw as many whales as we could and also taught us a lot about them in the way. Definitely recommend this tour
