What To Expect

Kamakahonu

The luau is held in a beautiful oceanfront setting near the historic Kamakahonu Bay. Guests of the Island Breeze Luau will enjoy a backdrop of passing boats, outrigger canoes, Mt Hualalai and the twinkling lights of Kona.

This luau was recommended to us by our hotel for it's location right on the water. We did not purchase upgraded seating, but felt that our seats were fine. They seat you in the order you arrive, so try to get there a bit early. Check in and seating was fast and easy. You can purchase photos and lei's during the check in process, but there is no pressure to do so. Before and during the dinner, there is an open bar available. They have a table of prepared Mai Tai's. You can take the Mai Tai's to the bar to add an additional shot of rum. There is also ice water and tropical punch set out. Also before dinner, had several Island activities to participate in such as hula dancing, and various Hawaiian games. There was an Imu ceremony where they unearth the pig and a re-enactment of the arrival of the Hawaiian royalty who rides in on a canoe across the bay. After the Imu ceremony, quickly make your way to the bay for best viewing/photos. The seating around was comfortable, with 3 rows of tables from the main stage. Each table had around 20 guests. Tables closest to the stage were dismissed first for dinner. We were in the 3rd row, center, and didn't feel like we were too far or had too wait to long for dinner. The food was great and much better than what I expected for a buffet style dinner. The show was even better. The performers were very talented and got the audience involved in the show. We had a great time and would highly recommend this luau to others.

Even if it wasn't the best luau on the island, which it probably is, the location would make up for any shortcomings. To the left of the stage is the grand Kailua bay. Excellent performances by true professionals, both musicians and dancers.

So unfortunately the rain came in and pushed us inside which Doesn’t happen often! The transition from outside To inside was SO smooth! These guys are definitely pros!! But even though we were inside the show they put on was SO MUCH FUN! The food was amazing and the hospitality was the greatest I have ever received! By far one of the greatest experiences of my life! And I will always come back to see the dancers and hear the music! Unforgettable experience! Way to go island breeze! You made my last night in Kona one I will never forget!
