Great Entertainment. Lots of food and drink. Beautiful setting. Dont pass this up if you are on the Big Island. Wonderful culture that has developed on that scary volcano. Thank you. Mahalo.

The food isn't great, but it isn't bad. I've never been to a luau before, but it was about as good as what I'd expect from a mediocre Vegas buffet. The dancers and MC were amazing -- really made the night. The bar was open, but there was only one bartender and the drinks were bottom shelf. Bud and budlight for beer, the cheapest liquor you could find, and disgusting wine. It met my expectations, but I wouldn't go back. Definitely something you should do at least once in your life, though.

We have attended two other luaus over the years (both on Kauai), and this one was the gentlest and sweetest. It felt like it was offered as a gift from one family to another with stories and cultural explanations that were enjoyable. Talented and entertaining performers, average food, lovely setting right at water's edge in Kailua-Kona. Excellent service, very organized. Hosts moved guests who were in less than optimal seating without question. Bonuses: Fun watching the outrigger canoe teams coming and going from the canoe club on shore into the open water at sunset. Fish leaping into the air. Sunset. Not so great: parking was challenging. Go early to avoid waiting in parking lines.
