A very informative tour given by the owner was a great way to see the island. She is a native of the island and knew a lot of stories and history that you wouldn't get on a regular tour.

We where picked up at Oak Bluffs by Dolores. She gave us a wonderful tour of the Vineyard. 3 hour tour just flew by. Dolores was happy to stop for photo opportunities. Her knowledge was amazing and because we love the film Jaws she was more than happy to show us places of interest. We where also treated to a tour of Camp Town. We would have missed this completely. Great tour which I would recommend.

We were looking for a custom tour of the African-American Heritage Trail with a 2-hour length. HomeGrown Tours appeared to be the only company on the island highlighting this tour as one of their offerings. Dee Dee was great! She was very friendly and knowledgeable about the stops on the Trail! We were quite surprised at some of the stops as there is no way someone without a deep knowledge of the island would be able to find them. What really engaged our attention were the real-life stories Dee Dee had about herself and her family and their interactions with key historical African American figures. One of our favorites was at the house of Emma Chambers Maitland (who had been a teacher, singer, actor, dancer, boxer, wrestler, and nurse!) where we learned that Dee Dee as a child would often go over to Emma's house for ice cream! All in all a great tour and an engaging guide; we'd highly recommend HomeGrown tours for any custom Martha's Vineyard experience!
