Joshua Tree National Park

Big Morongo Canyon Preserve
Nestled among the Little San Bernardino Mountains in the Sand to Snow National Monument, the desert oasis at Big Morongo Canyon is one of the 10 largest cottonwood and willow riparian habitats in California. The upstream end of the canyon lies in the Mojave Desert, while its downstream portion opens into the Colorado Desert. There are numerous trails to walk and hike, including a wheelchair-accessible boardwalk through the marsh and riparian habitats. At 31,000 acres with elevations ranging from 600 feet on the canyon floor to 3000 feet at the top of the ridge, this diverse landscape has been an important part of the Morongo Basin’s natural and cultural history for almost two billion years.

The open air hummer adventure was start to finish such a blast. The company handles all your logistics (even sunscreen, water, pit stops)- so you truly can sit back and take in the magic of Joshua Tree National Park and it’s surrounding counties. Our tour guide, Josh, was exceptional! Such a genuine, friendly person, local to the area and incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about its stories, history and nature. We had so much fun and can’t recommend it enough- especially if you are lucky enough to tour it with Josh.

At first I signed on the trip to San Andreas Fault, but later the company told me the temperature would be too high in the fault, and offered me an upgrade to Joshua Tree NP. It was very considerate, the sunset was gorgeous on the Eureka Summit, and the weather was much cooler. All of my family, including two 3-year-old kids, enjoyed the trip very much. The best part of the tour was our guide Josh. Usually I don't write comments on the internet, but this time I do it for Josh. He was super nice, patient, and knowledgable. We learnt from him the history of the desert cities, animals and plants around the park, geology of the district, as well as other interesting social issue of America. Especially one thing impressed me was he would stop and clean the trash on the roadside in the park. He really loves our planet and his job. Yes, you can drive to see the park by yourself, but a good guide would make your tour really different. I really wish I could travel together with Josh for the rest of my journey! Some said the tour was not off-road. In my opinion, it is off-road in the park, for around two hours. I don't think the SUV we rented could make it. Hummer in the wild is indeed an unusual experience. I agree the price is not cheap, but I think the joy my family got did worth it.

I had the pleasure today of joining Josh for the Joshua Tree Hummer Tour. It also included a trip to the San Andreas fault and Oasis. This is my first time to the desert and I can't believe how much we learned today. We spent five hours with Josh today. He ensured our comfort and safety, offered us cold water and snacks, snapped photos and made it such a pleasure. I had never been in a Hummer before either. That made for a fun trip, too. Hummer Adventures, I hope all of your guides are as kind and knowledgable as Josh. I feel like we hit the jackpot today. I have spent the evening telling my friends in Ohio was an amazing tour it was. Thank you, Josh! You rock! (no pun intended!) Dawn from Ohio
